Kurzbeschreibung	The stylistic traits of free keyboard forms of the 17th and 18th c. (toccata, prelude, capriccio), and the manneristic traits of the 16th- and 17th-c. fantasy are brought together in Bach's Chromatische Fantasie (1720-30). The title 'fantasy' applies primarily to the closing recitative section, which is written in a style characterized by Mattheson as 'stylis phantasticus', and which was derived from the recitativo stromentato of opera seria. With this recitative section Bach founded a new type of expressive free fantasy, whose traditions were carried on by his son C.P.E. Bach. (RILM)
