Schlagwörter Kantaten
Kurzbeschreibung Bach's cantatas BWV 12, Weinen, Klagen, Sorgen, Zagen, and BWV 69a, Lobe den Herrn, meine Seele, differ in mood and style. The former is old-fashioned, while the latter is in modern concertato style. Still, the two are connected. The final chorale of BWV 69a, Was Gott tut, das ist wohlgetan, was borrowed from BWV 12. Bach's chorale-tropus aria techniques are exemplified in both. The Lutheran theology of the cross permeates both. The two cantatas are sisters in using the same chorale and expressing the same theological idea. With God's support, man is able to say that what God does is good. (RILM)
