Kurzbeschreibung Manuscript copy of the Sonata in E flat, Fk 5, and the Sonata in D, Fk 3, in the hand of the Berlin collector Friedrich August Grasnick notated in brown ink on up to five two-stave systems per page, with title-pages also in Grasnick's hand ("Sonate pour Le Clavecin dédiée A Son Excellence Monseigneur de Kaiserling [Fk 5] ... Sonata per Cembalo del Guilelmo Friedemann Bach [Fk 3]") and with annotations by him ("Geschrieben zu Wien auf der Kaiserlichen Hof-Bibliothek d. 13 September 1849 von der in Kupfer geschriebenen Original-Ausgabe F. A. Gr. ... Geschrieben auf der Hof-Bibliothek zu Wien 27 u. 28 Septemb. 1849"), the third movement of the second sonata incomplete (ends after the first half of b.52); 16 pages, oblong 4to (25.6 x 33.8cm), 10-stave paper, dated Vienna (Hof-Bibliothek), 13-14 and 27-28 September 1849, nineteenth-century half calf, light wear to covers; Copies of W.F. Bach's two published keyboard sonatas by Friedrich August Grasnick (1798-1877), the famous collector of Beethoven sketchbooks. The second sonata (Fk 3) was published in Dresden in 1745, the first (Fk 5) in Halle in 1748. The copy of the latter here by Grasnick was made from the second edition of 1763, which appeared with a new title-page and dedication to Count von Keyserlingk.
